Current Volunteer Opportunities:
Evening Meals on Wheels: Deliver our hot, nutritious dinners to older or disabled adults in the area of your choice. Routes are run, Monday through Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m. and typically take one hour to complete. Delivering meals can also be a great family, group or business activity. (Consider our Adopt-A-Route program.) Substitute drivers are also needed. If you are unable to commit to a regular route, filling in for volunteers who are sick or on vacation, enables us to continue efficiently running this important program.
Kitchen Volunteers: Assist our chef in the professional kitchen at The Gardens Apartments where the Evening Meals on Wheels dinners are prepared and packaged fresh, daily. Other tasks may be assigned as needed. Volunteers choose their schedule, typically 9 a.m. - Noon or 1 - 4 p.m.
Chore Corps: Help an older or disabled adult by running errands, grocery shopping, meal preparation or light housekeeping. You set the schedule with a typical commitment of 1 to 2 hours per week.
Friendly Visiting: Promote interaction and reduce loneliness through weekly visits with an older or disabled adult. Many of our volunteer matches play cards, go for a walk, learn a new hobby, watch a movie or simply enjoy chatting. This opportunity is very flexible, based on your schedule and our client's availability.
Telephone Reassurance: Make calls based on client need-- a safety check, medication reminder or simply to talk. This can be done from the comfort of your home or office. Calls often take place at an agreed upon day and time. Length of call varies.
Kibble on Wheels: Deliver pet food and toys, once a month, to older or disabled adult clients who may be homebound or unable to afford the needs of their companion animal. Volunteers pick items up from the "Kibble Closet" at our Chapel Valley offices.
Lawn Care: (Seasonal) Help maintain the lawn, garden or landscaping of an older or disabled adult in the Madison area. Some tasks may include: weeding, mowing and raking leaves. This is typically a season-long commitment (May - September) with flexible but varied time requirements.
Snow Shoveling: (Seasonal) Shovel snow from the driveway and sidewalk of an older or disabled adult's home, lowering the risk of an injury or fall. Shoveling should occur within 48 hours of any snowfall, 2-inches or more. This is a season-long commitment (November - March) and based on the location/s you request.
Office Assistance: Perform clerical duties such as filing, paper shredding and general office work. Schedule and location may vary.
EMOW Office Helper: Office assistance needed in our Meals on Wheels office between the hours of 10:30 am - 2:30 pm, Thursday and Friday. Office is located at our 602 N. Segoe Rd. location.
