Connecting School and Community
As part of my lead student teaching from December 8-19, 2008, I decided that I wanted to connect my classroom at Midvale Elementary and the community around us. With the help of my cooperating teacher, I found and sought out the help of The Gardens, an Independent Living retirement community in Madison. When I went to The Gardens, I found 20 willing volunteers to write letters back and forth with my kindergarten class. The task was simple, they would receive a letter and write a short response.
